Thats why it is sometimes fun to go to a place where presentation is the specialty and wild culinary ideas are made real. Barton G (named for an eccentric impresario with a reputation for over-the-top theatrics) offers exceedingly original dishes that really have to be seen to be believed (for example, try the Freedom Chimp" for dessert its a chocolate monkey dressed as the statue of liberty, holding sparklers. No kidding). Even fairly standard dishes are presented in bizarre and interesting ways. For example, the seared scallops are served in lollipop form, while you can get swordfish and vegetables skewered on a foot-long dagger. The prices are a little steep, but unlike many other places in SoBe, the portions are huge, and the service is unfailingly excellent (though it does on occasion take a bit of time to be seated).

For optimal dining pleasure, try to get a seat in the garden it really has to be seen to be described, and remember to go all out on dessert. My favorite is the Baked Alaska, which is unrelentingly huge, and can easily feed four diners.

It was rare to find a house deep in the Thai countryside, and truly off the beaten tourist track, that offered every comfort for a relaxing stay in the real Thailand. The Visitors’ Book was full of glowing comments and the many repeat guests bore testimony to the visitors’ enjoyment of their stays, not only because of the property itself but because of the genuine welcome they received.

Leonardo da Vinci: Leonardos Animals Part 2 (of 2)

Leonardo is known to have kept horses, along with dogs, cats and other animals. Although numerous animal studies are found throughout Leonardo's drawings, his most frequent animal sketches are of horses. His renderings are extremely detailed and life-like. He infused his renditions of animals with nobility a characteristic that stemmed from his deep love and respect for the animals he sketched and painted.

In the mid 1480s, Leonardo moved from Florence to Milan. At that time, Milan was one of the most powerful city-states in Northern Italy. And, it's Duke, Ludovico Sforza, commissioned Leonardo to make a horse like no other to honor the Dukes father, Francesco Sforzo. It was to be a massive, bronze-cast statue the largest statue ever built, standing 24 feet high.

Leonardo made a great number of preparatory drawings for his Sforza Horse. His notebooks are filled with proportional studies of horses. There are detailed diagrams of the anatomy of horses, along with notes on how to cast it, and it would weigh 80 tons once complete! Leonardo made the clay model to scale, but the bronze horse was not to be. In 1499, the French army threatened an attack. The metal intended for the Sforza Horse would be needed to make canons. Leonardo left Milan before the French Army marched on the city. Seeing the massive clay horse, the French soldiers could not resist using it for target practice.Thereafter it was reduced to rubble. Leonardo became despondent and at the same time, vowed to one day see his horse completely built.

Much has been written throughout history about the "Horse that Never Was". Five hundred years after the destruction of the clay model, based on the notes and sketches of Leonardo, the 24-foot bronze horse was cast. In fact, two full-scale statues were completed. One stands in Michigan, while the other was given as a gift to the City of Milan. United Airline Pilot Charles Dent made it happen. Upon seeing the original sketches that had been rediscovered in Spain, he started the process of raising the necessary funds to build the full-scale, bronze horse. His plan was to give it as a gift to the Italians from the Americans. Being something of a sculptor himself, he built a clay model of the horse to Leonardo's specifications. And, although Charles Dent died in 1994, his dream lived on and over four-million dollars was raised. On September 10th, 1999, exactly 500 years after the French destroyed Leonardo's clay model, the bronze statue was unveiled in Milan. On October 7th, 1999, a second casting of the horse was unveiled in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This second horse is known as the American Horse.

Along with his sudies of mammals, Leonardo made hundreds of bird sketches. In the medieval publication Lives of Artists, Giorgio Vasari tells how Leonardo would go to the markets and buy caged birds, and then open their cages, giving them back their freedom.(1) Leonardo studied the motion of their wings in flight as well as their anatomy and physiology. He wrote down and illustrated his own theories on the flight of birds and was inspired to make several sketches of mechanical flying machines. He wrote a treatise called Codex on The Flight of Birds in which he made diagrams of a helical wing, beating wings, a parachute, and bat wings. Later he realized the problems with human-powered propulsion and began making notes and diagrams of gliders. He also designed a machine based on a helical screw that was 32 or 33 feet in diameter.(2) It was supposed to lift off and fly as the blade rotated, resembling a modern-day helicopter.

Leonardos passionate interest in studying animals was unique for his time. He studied and observed animals, and sketched and painted them with grace and realism. Other Renaissance artists like Michelangelo (1475-1564) and Raphael (1483-1520), who focused more on the humanity and divinity in art, did not include animals in their works to the extent as Leonardo did.(3) Without neglecting the Divine in Humanity, Leonardo above all other Renaissance artists, elevated all of nature and made it part of the Divine.

The Opposing Worlds of Coffee and Tea

They say that image is everything in life. The two common household items of coffee and tea are truly unique in perception not only regarding taste but also of social significance. They are both champions in respect of our choices in beverage but are unquestionably distinct in personality and acceptability. How so?

Lets start with coffee. Its got that reputation as the working mans everyday go-to tonic for a boost in vim and vigor needed to start the day. The odor is strong and satisfying and welcomes anyone taking a whiff to meet life head-on in no uncertain terms. The first sip clears the mental fog and the remaining ones set the tone for the rest of the day.

Coffee is for the blue collar folks that need the physical stimulus to get the proverbial gears in motion. Many just could not imagine beginning the day without a sure foundation of a rich and satisfying source of caffeine. The office folks share that need throughout the day to meet the administrative and executive challenges that confront them during these days of corporate tension.

Tea, however, is a whole different species. Its reputation leaves it in a category as the choice of the more refined members of society. Its more sweet and gentle in its delivery. It would have no part with those lacking in delicacy or refinement.

It has an elitist quality about it that avoids the brutish side of humanity. It invites those at a social gathering to speak in a more sophisticated way to others that share their sentiments. Tea is seemingly meant for those that are a tad bit more polished in speech and mannerisms.

When coffee and tea look each other in the eye what do they see? Many a coffee aficionado would roll their eyes and wonder if the other lived in the real world and could handle the slightest bit of pressure. There are sure to be many cup o joe fans that would easily dismiss the tea sippers as pansies born with silver spoons in their mouths.

What about the other side? There are sure to be enthusiasts of tea that are sympathetic to the plight of the common man of coffee who wouldnt know what to do with a good, cultured life even if it fell on his or her lap with ribbons attached. Why, those poor ruffians wouldnt have to work so hard if they would think and act more like those of our sort. Tsk tsk, indeed!

Was the scenario presented a bit exaggerated? Perhaps so, but there is unquestionably a social division between the two sides that will never be resolved. There will always be words unspoken between members of these separate worlds that ask So where did you go wrong?

Best Places In Miami Gardens

So youve just been to a Dolphins game. This means youre in Miami Gardens and you probably need a drink (with how this season is shaping up, youll definitely need a drink), and maybe a bite to eat. Miami Gardens doesnt offer quite the same bustling nightlife as the rest of Miami. So where do you go? Lucky for all you thirsty fans, Ive put together a list of my favorite places to go in Miami Gardens after watching the Dolphins fall all over themselves. Enjoy.

#1 Pinos Sports Bar and Grill: Located on Miami Lakes Drive, this place is the perfect place to go after the game, provided you want to talk about, hear about, and see what just happened. Its a great place both to celebrate a victory and to drown your sorrows with other like-minded fans. This is also a great place to go if you cant get tickets, as the facilities are well equipped to bring you the game. Pinos also offers beer a plus in any sports bar.

#2 Shulas Steak 2: This is actually in Miami Lakes, but is only a few miles away from the stadium. Well-known Florida football legend Don Shula operates a whole chain of hotels, bars, and steakhouses in the Miami Lakes area. Shulas Steak 2 is adjacent to the steakhouse, and offers a great happy hour, as well as excellent appetizers. Because of the low noise level, its a nice spot to hit after a game if youre a bit tired. Like Pinos, Shulas proudly serves beer.

#3 Mario the Baker: If you want some fantastic New York-style pizza, head over to Marios. The simple dcor and worn booths of Marios just feel right after watching a game, and the food is cheap and fantastic. Marios also serves beer.

Just because your team isnt doing well doesnt mean you cant make a night of it and have a good time. Youll just probably need some beer.

Do Kids Have Too Much Homework

In the late 90s, feature stories began appearing in the national media about children and parents who were so overwhelmed by the amount of homework that it was destroying their family life and causing psychological damage. The evidence presented in these stories was often anecdotal, profiling just one or two families. However, the articles were published in enough respected publications that they sparked a national debate on whether children have too much homework. Schools scrambled to create homework policies, parents held protests, and children began to receive sharply mixed messages on the value of homework.

In all the fuss, people never realized that the information contained the articles simply wasn't true. In 2003, the Brown Center on Educational Policy at the prestigious Brookings Institution released a report that shattered the perception that American students are staggering under an unreasonable load of homework. In fact, they found just the opposite: American students probably don't spend enough time on homework. Gathering data from a number of studies that had been performed in the late 90s, the Brown Center drew four startling conclusions.

Typical students, from kindergarten to high school, don't spend more than an hour a day doing homework. In fact, pointing to a study done by the Higher Education Research Institute at UCLA, the Brown report found that more than two-thirds of college freshmen did five hours or less of homework during their final year of high school.

The report also analyzed studies and concluded that the homework load for the average student has not increased appreciably since the 1980s. This is in direct opposition to the anecdotal evidence cited in the article of homework increasing to as much as three hours per night.

However, a study performed in 1997 by Michigan State University showed that children at that time were spending just over two hours per week on study, which could include activities other than homework. Interestingly, this study is often used to prove that students have too much homework, since the weekly hours spent on study increased over the life of the study by 23 minutes. The Brown Center postulates that this statistical increase was actually caused by children who previously had no homework at all and because they had advanced in grade, now had homework.

Finally, the Brown report found that, contrary to the articles' portrayal of militant parents protesting homework, most parents are satisfied with the amount of homework their children receive. In fact, if parents were dissatisfied with the amount of homework their children had, it was because they felt it wasn't enough.

One True Life Story Of A Russian Gold-Digger

My wife went to her ESL class in America one day. Her teacher introduced her to another young woman from Belarus. We shall call her Valentina, which is not her real name.

Her real name has been changed to protect the not so innocent. She spoke no English.

Valentina told this long story about being brought to America by a man who was thirty years older than her. She said that he refused to feed her and take care of her. She said she ran away from him and was staying at the home of another Russian family.

She had exceeded the three months allowed by the fianc visa, without marrying the man who brought her here. She was now in America illegally.

My wife invited her to dinner. She invited a friend of mine to dinner as well, who is an attorney, hoping that he could give her some advice.

Valentina asked my wife if she cooked for me every day. My wife said yes. Valentina explained to her in Russian that she would not be bothered with any of that.

Valentina asked my wife if I had a maid. My wife explained that she did the cleaning. Again Valentina turned her nose up at the idea of household chores.

Valentina didnt eat much at dinner, but she drank nearly a bottle of wine by herself. The wine loosened her lips.

Valentina explained that the man who brought her to America had mental problems. She said he acted like a bird, flapping his arms like wings, as he danced around his car.

Valentina said she knew of his mental problems before she came to America, but she came anyway.

She said she didnt know if she would have another chance to get to America otherwise.

My friend, the attorney, tried to offer her legal help. He offered her a job cleaning his house if she needed some extra money.

Valentina explained to my wife, in Russian, in no uncertain terms, that she would rather earn money in a different way, rather than housework.

She asked how my wife could stand being around these fat old men, referring to my friend and I.

My wife got more and more angry with Valentina as the evening wore on. She cut off all relationship with her after that evening.

We heard through the grapevine that Valentina was on her way to Los Angeles to get her visa problems taken care of. She was probably now in the hands of the Russian Mafyia people she could understand because they thought just like her.

A Home Based Business Means Quick, Easy Money...And Flying Pigs!

Oh yeah, here come those wonderful flying pigs!

Where does it ever end? I've been involved with Internet-based home businesses for several years and I continue to be exposed to a seemingly endless barrage of offers (all costing me money, of course) claiming to be "the secret" for making a fantastic income, in a very short time, and with very little effort involved.

I must admit that I may have a slightly self-serving reason for addressing this topic. My articles are published on my home-based business websites for the purpose of trying to give prospective team members a true sense of what is really involved with starting and developing a successful home based business.

The self-serving part, I suppose, is that I want people joining my team to have the straight scoop going in so that we don't waste each other's time. I admit to being selfish in this regard (I don't want to waste time working with people that have unrealistic expectations), but it is also very efficient for both parties involved, so it is not a totally one-way thing.

Now, back to the topic at hand. There's no magic here, folks.

Once you have selected the home business that you are going to pursue, there are no substitutes for time and effort in developing your business. A dream of being an "overnight success" is just that, a dream.

I can tell you from personal experience, that once you "pay your dues" and begin to have real success with a home based business, it is really terrific. Think about Nirvana or Valhalla, take your pick, but in any event it's really sweet.

When I started developing a home based business, making a good income was obviously an objective, but I also had other sub-objectives. One of the most important things was to have nearly total time flexibility (I mean, if I was willing to continue to wear the 9-5 Mon-Fri collar I could just have just stayed in the previously "traditional" work force).

Time flexibility was (and still is) a "biggie" for me. Many people working at home have the same need for various reasons.

For work at home moms, a home business can be a real godsend to accommodate the hectic time pressures, particularly when the kids are quite young and mom is also spelled "transportation".

In my own particular case, the reason is not quite so noble...I just want (need?) to be able to pick up my fly rod and go fishing at a moments notice (sometimes I'll be gone for a week or two at a time, but now the business has enough momentum that it keeps on operating just as well as if I were here tending to it on a daily basis).

Bear in mind, I am only able do the breakaway thing now that I have put in all the up-front time and effort and now have developed enough kinetic energy in my home-based Internet business to be able to enjoy the fruits of my labor.
